So what do you do on weekends?

Looking at the exodus of people in the down town malls it seems that all people of the world go for mall hopping during weekends. Specially the South city Mall located in south Kolkata. Pantaloons, Shopper Stop is full, Designer Sarees, Shoesall stores are full, long queues at Fame the six screen multiplex and Food court…gawd…I bet no one can find a place at one go.

In a chat with a guy who has worked in Inorbit mall Malad, Mumbai and now works in Southcity mall, Kolkata, we came across a funny statement “madam yaha sab bikta hai…and khana toh log itna khate hai ki kya bole”

Actually the same is the scenario in almost all malls across the city, including the newly opened mall in Howrah – The Avani Mall.
Crowded…in fact too crowded and 70 -80% people going there just to chill and grab some food. Even the pav bhaji wala selling soft roundels of breads with that spicy bhaji is doing a hell of a decent business. And the chai wala next to him sells about 4000 cups on an average.

On a certain IPL day I caught a rare glimpse which I would love to share. I wonder if just watching the match on a big screen is enough to get people wild to leave the comfort of home and watch the match like this.

Kolkata has always had a variety of eateries but I wonder what takes crowd to Malls on weekends. Probably the convenience of The AC food Courts and the variety of spread. On one hand you have the luxury of fine dining and on the other hand you have the kebabs, the KFCs, the subways of the world waiting for cheaper and convinient options.

Sundays were always special and I love to spend it my way. It’s one day when you don’t really need to wake up early because you need to rush to office. And no Mall Hopping is not something that you want to do every weekend.  And as cooking comes naturally to me and so does the cravings for sweets, this weekend I decided to keep it sweet and guilt free.

So we have an Oat Meal Frozen Cake

1.       Boil ½ ltr of Milk
2.       Add sugarfree tablets as required
3.       Add 2 spoons of dry cocoa powder in the boiling milk
4.       Add ½ cup (small) Oatmeal
5.       Keep boiling till the mix is thick and not runny
6.       Keep the mix aside and let it cool.
7.       In the blender crush 4-5 digestive biscuits.
8.       In the buiscuit powder add ½ spoon of melted nutralite and  ½ spoon milk. Mix well
9.       In a spring form pan, layer the biscuit mix and freeze for an hour

10.   Now take the milk and oatmeal mix and put it in the blender and mix till smooth
11.   Add 2 tsp of almong & walnuts chopped. Mix well
12.   Take the spring form pan out and layer it with the mix.
13. Add the remaining buiscuit mix on top
14.   Freeze for 3-4 hrs
15.   Remove from the tray, chop and relish it

So for you next weekend…Wake up late, make an Oatmeal Cake, watch a movie and chill out
